This is an 8-week Flex 1 course (08/26/2024 – 10/19/2024). This course is a hybrid course. A portion of the Lec instruction for this course will meet face-to-face Tuesdays, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM on the Northeast Lakeview College campus. The remainder of the Lec and Lab instruction for this course will be delivered via Canvas with no scheduled class meetings. Firewalls and Network Security - 39895 - ITSY 2301 - 002

Hybrid/Blended Instruction: This course has an online/remote instruction with an in person on-campus component during the scheduled class day(s) and time listed. Canvas and additional online free tools will be used.

Programs: Information Technology Network Administrator A.A.S., Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist A.A.S., and Information Technology Cybersecurity Specialist Level 1 Certificate.

Course Description: Prerequisite: ITSY 1342

This course identifies elements of firewall design, types of security threats and responses to security attacks. Use Best Practices to design, implement, and monitor a network security plan. Examine security incident postmortem reporting and ongoing network security activities.

Demonstrate system security skills through software and hardware firewall implementation and testing; use system tools, practices, and technologies to implement a security plan; evaluate practices, tools, and technologies to identify security breaches, sources of attacks, and protect mission critical systems; establish levels of security based on an analysis of security logs; and use relevant tools to identify network vulnerabilities, and respond/mitigate to various types of attacks.

Industry Certification Focus: Experience hands-on preparation for the Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate Industry Certification exam.

Technology Requirements: A student must have regular access to a computer with a reliable Internet connection (high speed is strongly recommended), a webcam/camera, and must be proficient with a computer and navigating the Internet.
